Holidays to Athens

The most famous site is the Parthenon and Acropolis of Athens, where you can experience this stunning ancient structure as well as enjoy some wonderful panoramic views over the entire city. Under the Acropolis are lots of other wonderful places to visit, and as you visit the various ancient sites, you can stop for a drink or a bite to eat in the Plaka and Monastiraki districts.

The Cyclades islands is the biggest island group in Greece and is located in the heart of the Aegean sea. It is home to some of the most famous of all Greek islands, and attracts visitors each year from all corners of the world. The island of Santorini is probably the most famous of the Cyclades islands, and this is a place that huge numbers will visit each year. The unique landscape formed by the volcanic eruptions thousands of years back has left its mark on the island and today the caldera is a one of the highlights of a trip to Santorini.

Holidays to the Greek Islands

Some of the other popular islands in the Dodecanese include Karpathos, Patmos, Kalymnos and Kos. Some of the islands are very small and peaceful, and perfect for escaping from the noise and crowds of some of the more popular destinations.

Above the Dodecanese are the North Aegean Islands, which are located close to the coast of Turkey. These islands are very beautiful and provide a very relaxing setting for your holidays in the Aegean.

The islands of Lesvos, Ikaria, Samos and Thassos are the most well known islands here, though there are several other smaller islands such as Oinousses and Psara which are very traditional and authentic islands.

Across on the west side of Greece in the Ionian sea are the Ionian islands, which are a much loved holiday destination for many travelers. The appearance and style of these islands is much different to those in the Aegean, and they are a great place to visit.

Holidays to Crete Greece

Corfu is the most famous of the Ionian islands, though the others of Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos are also very well known, and each has a large number of visitors coming from around the world to enjoy the spectacular blue and turquoise seas and the soft sandy beaches.

Close to the city of Athens are the Saronic Gulf islands, a small gathering of islands that include Aegina, Hydra and Poros. These are very beautiful islands and are perfect for those who are visiting Athens and wish to take in a Greek island.

With a short ferry journey time of just a couple of hours, you can escape from the city and head over on a relaxing ferry ride to one of the islands where you can swim, explore or enjoy a bite to eat.

The other two islands in Greece that are ideal for year round holidays are Crete and Evia, the largest and second largest of all Greek islands. Evia is located right next to the mainland, and you can actually drive over to the island via the bridge that connects the mainland to the capital city of Chalkida.

Crete is located in the south of the Aegean and is a truly unique destination, filled with beautiful coastal resorts, mountainous villages and so much to see and experience, that you will need to come back again and again to really sample everything it has to offer.
