Iraklia Island Holidays
Iraklia is one of the smaller of the islands in the Cyclades, and belongs ot the group known as the Small Cyclades. It is located between the neighbouring islands of Ios and Naxos.
As with many of the surrounding islands, Iraklia is one with a very interesting and rich history. The old castle ruins that stand above the bay of Livadi provide visitors to the island with a glimpse into the historic past of Iraklia.
There are two villages on Iraklia, one of Chora (Hora) or Panagia as it is also known. The other village is that of Agios Georgios, which is also the port of Iraklia.
The landscape and scenery of Iraklia is very beautiful with lots of greenery and rich vegetation. It is an island that is ideal for trekking and exploring, due to both it's small size and the inspiring views and imagery you will find everywhere.
Iraklia has some very beautiful beaches for swimming. The beaches are either sandy or with pebbles, and offer visitors the chance of a refreshing dip into the crystal blue waters of the Aegean.
There are also other beautiful beaches on Iraklia that are only accessible by boat. There are some tours that are available where visitors can take a nice trip around the island, and stop at some of the isolated and unique beaches.
Due to the small size of the island, accommodation and rooms are often very limited on Iraklia. There are some rooms and apartments that offer accommodation, but you would need to make reservations as early as possible. If you are successful in booking accommodation on Iraklia, you can be confident that your holidays here will be unforgettable.
Visitors to Iraklia will also find a charming selection of traditional tavernas in the harbous and Chora where one can sample some of the local cuisine including fresh fish and seafood.
Iraklia has boat connections with the port of Pireaus in Athens, and also with the neighbouring island of Naxos which is very close by.
