‘Our peoples campaign to attract easyJet flights from UK to Volos Greece has really taken off’,said campaign organisers Chris Wicks, Christos Martzos and Leda Filipoppoulou one week after launching their social media campaign to attract easyJet to schedule a service between London and Volos, in Thessalia, Central Greece.
Volos in central Greece is the gateway to the fabulous Pelion peninsular, major towns in Thessalia, and the islands of Evia, Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonyssos. A peoples campaign launched on Facebook ( www.facebook.com/easyjet.volos ) has captured the imagination of residents and visitors wanting better access to this beautiful region.

Chris Wicks explained, ‘the first phase of our campaign was to ask people to LIKE our page and comment, so we could see if there was significant support for our campaign. Our supporters have shown a strong demand exists and this will be a profitable route. We believe easyJet are a company who listens to it’s customers, Pelion has a great deal to offer and yet remains relatively unknown. If easyJet puts us on their map it will give our whole region a lift.’

In the winter; scheduled flights will be valuable to the many people travelling to UK for study, work and family purposes. Flights will enhance winter tourism to the wonders of Pelion, sun, sea, snow (our own ski centre) and exploring nature through our fabulous hiking routes. Currently many summer visitors from the UK fly to Athens or Thessaloniki to access our region which provides an amazing mixture of nature, mountain, beaches and sea. Many people are put off by the long onward journey by road to reach Volos, there is a strong and clear demand to make better use of our local airport.

Christos Martzos explained ‘ in 2010 a new terminal building was opened at Volos (Nea Anchialos) Airport with fast access to the whole region. Local businesses feel frustrated and forgotten and are optimistic that the peoples campaign will result in a good news story for the development of this fabulous region by opening it to the UK market.

We invite people to support this community initiative, to LIKE our page and for those with industry connections to help us achieve our goal by any practical means.

Come on. Let’s fly ……. to Volos!
