Well it took a lot longer than anyone expected but Google street view images are now available for a selection of locations in Greece. After negotiations with the Data Protection Authority in Greece which placed a ban on the usage of such images in 2009, the much anticipated street view images were finally put live online.<\/p>\n
At the moment there are street views for a number of locations including Chania in Crete, Nafplion, Plaka and the Acropolis Museum in Athens, the port of Mykonos, the old town of Corfu and several others.<\/p>\n
Hopefully this will be the start of many other places around Greece being released as street view images. I remember back in May 2009 that I saw the Google car out and about in Agios Dimitrios in Athens and snapped a few photos of it.<\/p>\n
Since then, the Google street view car has been spotted in destinations all over Greece and the Greek islands.<\/p>\n
Panos Panagiotopoulos, the Culture Minister of Greece, said\u00a0during the launch event in Athens “We have so much to show off. This is a godsend.”<\/p>\n
