Flights to Athens Greece
The capital city of Athens welcomes millions of visitors to Greece throughout the year and is one of the most modern airports in the world with first class facilities.
The Athens International Airport ( ATH ) or the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport as it is also known, is a very important hub in the Mediterranean and has connections with destinations all over the world. The airport is located in Spata, about 20km from the city centre, and opened in 2001 when it replaced on the old Elliniko.
The airport is connected to the city by metro and bus making it very easy and quick to reach your destination in the capital. At the airport you can use the express bus services that operate 24 hours a day. There are also taxis available should you require one of those to take you to your final destination. There are also hotels and accommodation available in and around the airport should you need to spend the night close by.
The Athens airport also caters for a large number of domestic flights to locations all over Greece and the Greek islands. If you are planning on travelling to one of the Greek islands by air during the summer months, it is advisable to make sure you book your air tickets as soon as possible as demand often outweighs availability.
If you are travelling to Athens and from there, you plan to take a ferry boat to one of the Greek islands, then you can use the bus services to take you to the ports of Piraeus or Rafina, from where you can then board your ferry boat.
